MANITOWOC, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Fabian Adams was sentenced Thursday to a year in jail for attempted vehicle theft and disorderly conduct.
Adams, 18, was placed on probation for three years. He also must pay $4,219.96 in restitution, court records show.
According to the probable cause document, a resident called police after seeing someone breaking into a vehicle, a Kia. When police arrived, Adams fled. He was caught after a short foot chase.
Adams, who was arrested as a juvenile for vehicle thefts, said he was on the phone with two friends when he spotted the Kia. They told him to steal the car, given its reputation for being easy to steal. Adams found a screwdriver, broke a car window, and was trying to start it as police arrived, the probable cause statement says.
