DE PERE, WI (WTAQ) — Republican Vice Presidential nominee J.D. Vance spent some time in northeast Wisconsin on Wednesday.
At AmeriLux International in De Pere, supporters were lined up and ready to go hours before the rally started, and WTAQ was there to talk to them.
We asked them the question; what’s an important issue you want to see addressed that you’re not hearing any of the candidates on either side talk about? Their answerers covered a wide range of topics.
Kris Casey is concerned about children’s education.
“We certainly pay a significant amount in property taxes that go to fund the public schools. Then you look at what happening in the public schools and their failures,” said Casey. “Particularly in our community in Manitowoc, the kids can’t read. So there’s all kinds of issues going on in the public schools.”
Others like Mary Naitl spoke about immigration; particularly a new bill in California that could pass the legislature as early as this week.
“What the federal government is handing over to the illegal immigrants coming across the border; they’re giving them $150,000 per immigrant to start up and buy a home in California,” said Naitl.
With the economy remaining a critical issue, Joseph Spiering sees a unique opportunity on generating raw materials.
“I’m a coin collector and the United States has a lot of coins that can be recycled into raw materials,” said Spiering. “Like pennies, they’re made of 95% copper, and that’s a huge place where we could get some raw materials; out of our money.”
And, Burnett Dybvik wants to see the candidates express their faith and incorporate that into how they run the country.
“In regards to God and religion, we can get that back into our society,” said Dybvik. “I’m a firm believer in God, and we have to go back to where we came from.”
Wednesday’s event marked Vance’s fourth trip to Wisconsin in the past 21 days, but his first to northeast Wisconsin. On Thursday, republican presidential nominee Donald Trump will be in La Crosse. He is scheduled to take the stage at 6:30 p.m. at the La Crosse Center.
