(Reuters) – Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, the boyfriend of pop star Taylor Swift, has acquired an ownership share in three-year-old thoroughbred Swift Delivery, the Team Valor International stable said on Tuesday.
Kelce, along with his friend Alex Zoldan and family, had purchased a “significant share” of Team Valor’s interest in the gray gelding, who is set to race in Saturday’s Toronto Cup.
“Naturally all the partners in Swift Delivery are excited about the horse and our new partner and we look forward to racing him on Saturday in Canada,” Barry Irwin, CEO of Team Valor International, told Reuters.
“We hope his development continues and he becomes a top runner for us.”
The terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Swift Delivery won his first start for the new partnership in an allowance race on July 19, following an impressive 16 1/2-length victory in his maiden race. Team Valor International produced 2011 Kentucky Derby winner Animal Kingdom.
Kelce is unlikely to be in attendance for Swift Delivery’s stakes debut at Woodbine on Saturday with the Chiefs playing the opening regular season game on Sept. 5 as they look to win a third straight Super Bowl.
Kelce signed a two-year contract extension with the Chiefs earlier this year that will see the three-times Super Bowl champion stay with the club through the 2027 season.
The 34-year-old and his brother Jason have recently reached a three-year podcast agreement with Amazon’s Wondery in a deal reportedly worth more than $100 million.
