APPLETON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Downtown Appleton’s 222 Building has been added to the State Register of Historic Places.
The Wisconsin State Historic Preservation Review Board approved the designation Friday, according to the Wisconsin Historical Foundation.
Built in 1951 as the Aid Association for Lutherans building, it was called the Thrivent Building after a corporate merger, and later the 222 Building. It will be remodeled to become the new corporate headquarters for U.S. Venture.
U.S. Venture has said it would use state and federal tax credits to help pay for the building’s rehabilitation.
The building is recognized for its art deco design.
