APPLETON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Family, Friends and those who have searched for missing Elijah Vue out of Two Rivers came together Sunday in Appleton.
They are hoping to keep the attention on finding the little boy.
People gathered at Kiwanis Parkto mark Vue’s birthday party. He turned four last week.
Their goal: making sure the missing boy is remembered, as supporters hold out hope he will be found soon.
“We just need to find him, one way or another, I think, Wisconsin needs some closure, of some point,” said Michele Ramsden, from Verona, Wisconsin.
Many are coming to terms with the fact that Vue may not be alive.
Two Rivers police last week acknowledged they are confident their investigation will reveal the truth behind his disappearance.
“It would be foolish for us to say he’s certainly alive. Statistically, that’s probably not the case, but we’re obviously hopeful,” said Two Rivers Police Capt., Andrew Raatz on Tuesday, August 20th. “Could he still be alive? Certainly. We have to be realistic about it as well. At this point, we’re still looking for Elijah.”
“Obviously I, I would love for Elijah to be alive and for us to find him alive and well, but we’re going on six months and nothing,” said Tara Michels, from Augusta, Wisconsin.
Others like Elijah’s aunt, Amber Runge, are choosing to believe the opposite.
“I know, I understand, I’m well aware the statistics are out, absolutely, absolutely against that thought, but I feel like by now if he was no longer with us there would’ve been some sort of indication,” said Runge.
Runge says she talks with her sister, Katrina Baur, Elijah’s mother, often.
“I don’t think she knows anything, like… she’s been gone for six months, like if she knew anything, she would’ve said something by now,” said Runge.
Baur is in jail awaiting trial on charges like chronic child neglect, but is not charged in the boy’s disappearance.
He was first reported missing on February 20th.
As months have gone by without Elijah, those at his birthday event want to keep his name out there for the world to see.
“Four, but not forgotten, but let’s keep our spirits up and keep the hope and keep praying,” said Michels.
