FOND DU LAC, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Counseling is being offered at a Fond du Lac elementary school after a 6-year-old died in a crash.
Police identified the victim on Thursday as Lincoln C. Menne.
In a letter sent to parents, the school district says Menne was about to enter first grade at Waters Elementary School.
The letter says counselors are available at Waters Elementary and the Boys & Girls Club from 2-4 p.m. Thursday, and again from 10 a.m.-noon Friday at Waters.
Police said the crash happened around 6:25 p.m. Wednesday in the 300 block of Grove Street. Preliminary investigation indicated Menne rode his bicycle into the street and was struck by a vehicle traveling west. A 41-year-old Fond du Lac man was behind the wheel.
Menne was taken to SSM Health – St. Agnes Hospital, where he died.
The vehicle’s driver was uninjured and is cooperating with law enforcement.
Full letter from the Fond du Lac School District
Dear Families,
It is with deep sadness that we provide you with this update. The Fond du Lac School District has learned that one of our students, a to-be first grader at Waters Elementary School, passed away in an automobile accident on Wednesday, Aug. 21.
Out of respect for the family, we are not sharing the student’s name at this time. However, we wanted our school community to know and provide information on support that will be available to students.
Counselors will be available to assist any students who may need help processing this news. They will be available on Thursday, Aug. 22, from 2 to 4p at both Waters Elementary and the Boys & Girls Club, as well as on Friday, Aug. 23, from 10a to Noon at Waters.
We will also have counselors available in each of our schools once the school year begins on September 3. Fondy CARES is available for students and families who feel their student may need private, professional therapy. School counselors can help connect families to Fondy CARES services for their students.
We are grieving together as a school district community. Please join us in keeping the student’s family and friends in our thoughts at this time.
Sincerely,
Fond du Lac School District
