TWO RIVERS, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Two Rivers police say haven’t given up on finding missing Elijah Vue, as the search reaches the six-month mark.
On Tuesday, police released a statement, saying they are confident their investigation will ultimately reveal the truth behind the three-year-old’s disappearance.
Vue was reported missing Feb. 20 by his caregiver, Jesse Vang. Prosecutors say Vue’s mother, Katrina Baur sent her son to live with Vang — her boyfriend — at his Two Rivers apartment for “disciplinary reasons.” An Amber Alert was subsequently issued.
Despite extensive searches, the boy has not been found. Baur and Vang face child neglect charges related to the condition of the home and treatment of the boy. No one has been charged in connection with the boy’s disappearance.
Police say they will continue to follow upon tips and leads.
Officials also dispelled some rumors and scams going around:
Recently rumors surfaced online and on social media platforms stating Elijah has been found. This is not true. The spreading of false and misleading information is disrespectful to the family of Elijah and detracts from our efforts in locating him. We have also been made aware of fake “Go Fund Me” or similar pages that have been set up and we advise the public to beware and report these scams. We are also aware of some individuals who appear close to the case and have proven ulterior motives by spreading false information. We would like to remind everyone that we remain the sole source of factual information in this investigation and will release more information and updates when they are available to share.
Earlier this month, a judge denied Baur’s request to lower her bond. Baur recently obtained a new attorney who asked for time to review the case, so an Oct. 22 status conference is set.
Meanwhile, Vang returns to court Sept. 27 for a status conference; no trial date has been set.
