APPLETON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Two higher education institutions in Northeast Wisconsin are partnering to create a new transfer opportunity for students.
Fox Valley Technical College in Appleton and Marian University in Fond du Lac developed the program.
It will allow students to complete their first two years of general education classes at FVTC and earn an Associate of Arts or an Associate of Science degree, then transfer all credits to MU to pursue a bachelor’s degree with junior standing.
Leaders from both schools gathered Thursday at FVTC to sign the articulation agreement that formalizes the collegiate transfer program.
Officials say there is already a “rich history” of FVTC students transferring to MU to complete their degrees in in-demand professions like nursing, education, social work and criminal justice.
“Students can come and say, ‘Hey, I’m gonna be a nurse, but I know that I can go to Fox Valley Tech, I know I can get my basic classes here in the first two years, maybe live at home, save some resources, but yet I already know what that future’s going to look like and I’m going to be a Marian Sabre and I’m gonna graduate from there,'” said Aaron Sadoff, president of Marian University.
It just makes a lot of sense financially, but also, what I’ve learned in my short time as Marian president, is the more we can work together, the better off we’re going to be.
The program will begin at the start of FVTC’s fall 2024 semester.
“With 200+ FVTC students enrolled in the AA/AS university transfer degree program for the fall 2024 semester, this new partnership will give FVTC students increased value, opportunity and mobility to continue their academic endeavors at Marian University,” a news release states.
FVTC serves over 45,000 students annually, more than any other technical college in Wisconsin.
