Crews respond to fire at Proctor and Gamble in Green Bay, August 1, 2024. PC: Fox 11 Online
GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A large fire ball erupted from the vent on the roof of a Green Bay business.
Around 11:30 p.m. Wednesday, crews received a report of a fire at Proctor and Gamble at 501 Eastman Avenue.
When firefighters arrived on scene, they were told there was fire in the air handling system for two of their paper machines.
While crews were chasing fire through the duct system, a large fire ball erupted from the vent on the roof of the building.
An additional fire was then reported in the wall above the electrical room, creating a delay while waiting for power to be isolated so crews could continue putting out the fire.
Later, crews returned to assist the fire marshals in locating and extinguishing hot spots.
Excessive heat both in the building and outside temperatures were very taxing on crews, so firefighters were rotated throughout to ensure they were hydrated, cooled and healthy.
No firefighters were injured.
