APPLETON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — The man charged with striking a bicyclist with his vehicle last week, and then leaving the scene, told police he thought someone threw a rock at his car.
Alic Riedl, 28, was charged Monday with hit and run involving great bodily harm for the crash Wednesday night in the 400 block of N. Meade Street.
In court Monday, bond was set at $25,000 cash. Riedel returns to court next for a preliminary hearing, but it was not immediately scheduled.
Assistant District Attorney Josha Dryak said in court Monday the victims suffered “massive” injuries, including to the head, but was improving. Riedel was likely speeding, as well.
Riedel told police he thought someone threw a rock at his vehicle, according to the criminal complaint.
“Alic said all he knew was his windshield got hit. He confirmed that he didn’t stop to confirm what he hit,” the complaint states. “Alic did not remember seeing someone on a bike and said he did not see the reflective light of the bicycle.”
