WINNEBAGO COUNTY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Sheriff’s officials have released the names of the two people flying on a plane that crashed Monday near the EAA AirVenture convention.
The Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office says it believes Sean M. Tommervik, 37, who recently moved to Philadelphia from El Paso, Texas; and James G. Sullivan, 32, who recently moved from Nashville, Tennessee, to Brooklyn, New York, were on board.
“Official Medical Examiner confirmation will take additional time; however, after the initial investigation, there is no reason to believe the occupants were anyone other than Mr. Tommervik and Mr. Sullivan,” the sheriff’s office said in a news release.
Tommervik owned the Lancair Super ES plane.
Crews responded around 12:50 p.m. Monday, to the crash scene in a farm field in the area of Nekimi Avenue and Old Knapp Road, in the town of Nekimi. The plane was engulfed in flames when rescuers arrived. The area is about two miles south of EAA AirVenture.
The National Transportation Safety Board is continuing to investigate the crash.
