(247NEWSSOURCE/LEARFIELD) – The Brewers got crushed by the Pirates 12-2 from American Family Field.
Brewers manager Pat Murphy said the team hasn’t had one of those games in a while.
And Murphy said they have to just wash this game off.
Colin Rea got the loss after giving up seven runs on six hits over five innings.
Rea talked about his outing.
William Contreras and Blake Perkins drove in runs as Milwaukee has now lost four of its last five games.
The Brewers are still first in the NL Central at 53-and-39.
Game 2 versus the Pirates: The Brewers continue their series with the Pirates tonight at American Family Field. Tobias Myers gets the start for Milwaukee, who is 5-and-3 on the year with a 3.52 ERA. Martin Perez gets the ball for Pittsburgh in game two of the three-game set. He is 1-and-4 on the season with a 4.85 ERA.
Post-game odds and ends: With tonight’s loss, the Brewers fell for just the seventh time in their last 29 contests at American Family Field…..Milwaukee is 20-11 against the National League Central this season, including 4-4 vs. Pittsburgh…..the Brewers allowed 5 HR in a game for the first time since 5/22/23 vs. Houston (5hr)…..the 12 runs scored by Pittsburgh were the most allowed by Milwaukee since 4/28 vs. New York-AL (15r)…..it was the fifth time this season the Brewers allowed 10+ runs in a game (last 10r on 6/9 at Detroit).
Contreras on a roll: William Contreras (1-for-4, 1 2b, 1rbi, 1r) drove in the Brewers first run of the game with an RBI-double in the third inning…..he is batting .361 (13-for-36) with 3 doubles, 1 HR, 3 RBI and 6 runs over his last 9 games.
When all else fails: Jake Bauers (1ip, 1h, 1bb) pitched a scoreless ninth inning in his third career pitching appearance, all coming this season (last 6/9 at Detroit)…..he has not allowed a run over 3.0 innings (2h, 4bb) on the mound.
