DOOR COUNTY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A new therapy dog is joining the team at the Door County Sheriff’s Office.
10-week-old Finn is a multigenerational Australian Labradoodle. He currently weighs 10 pounds, but is expected to be 25-40 pounds full grown.
Finn is working with Door County Therapy Dog Team, Inc. throughout the year-long training process to help him prepare to become certified in the future.
Officials say Finn’s mission is to bring smiles, comfort and support to members of the Sheriff’s Office, as well as local students, staff, public safety agencies and the area community.
Say hello to Finn, the newest member of our wellness team! We will be modeling a “team” approach. This concept has one handler for a “home base” but other department members will be a part of the K9 team; being able to partner with Finn on a daily basis.
Finn comes to the Door County Sheriff’s Office from Blueberry Cottage Labradoodles, located in western Wisconsin, which works with law enforcement agencies to place therapy dogs.
The Sheriff’s Office says therapy dogs provide security, companionship, happiness and love. They can also help people feel more comfortable around law enforcement and offer comfort to those in need of assistance or care.
