IRMA, WI (WTAQ-WRN) — The deceased victim in Monday’s attack at the Lincoln Hills Youth Prison near Irma has been identified, and the teenage suspect is being charged as an adult.
49-year-old Corey Proulx was declared brain dead on Tuesday after he hit his head on a hard surface after being attacked.
The suspect was identified on Wednesday as 16-yard-old Javarius Hurd, who is being held on a $100 thousand cash bond and facing counts of felony murder, reckless homicide, and battery by prisoners.
Investigators say Hurd also lashed out at another correctional officer, who is expected to recover from her injuries.
Further court action against Hurd is pending.
According to the Department of Corrections, Proulx was a “dedicated and compassionate” member of the team at Lincoln Hills who leaves behind a fiancée and daughter.
