TOWN OF MORRISON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – A ribbon cutting ceremony was held Monday to celebrate the completion of new recreational amenities at a Brown County park.
As part of its Comprehensive Outdoor Recreation Plan, the Brown County Parks Department decided to revitalize an old tennis court area at Way-Morr Park that was past its useful life. Officials with the town of Morrison suggested the addition of pickleball courts due to the sport’s growing popularity.
Brown County contributed nearly $40,000 to the project, and the town board pitched in $10,000. These funds allowed for the resurfacing and painting of the 13,000-square foot area, which is now comprised of two new pickleball courts and a half-court basketball court.
“Anytime you add an amenity to a park that the communities are interested in and it’s a hot trend, you’re going to see an increase in attendance,” said Brown County Parks Director Matt Kriese.
Way-Morr Park is open to the community daily from dawn to dusk. It also features a playground, volleyball courts and a shelter rental.
