TWO RIVERS, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Misinformation spreading on social media that missing three-year-old Elijah Vue has been found is “not true” and is “disrespectful to the family of Elijah”, according to police.
The Two Rivers Police Department (TRPD) addressed these rumors Monday, saying the ongoing misinformation is a distraction as officials continue to work to find the missing boy.
Recently rumors surfaced on social media platforms stating Elijah has been found. This is not true. The spreading of false and misleading information is disrespectful to the family of Elijah and detracts from our efforts in locating him. We remain the sole source of factual information in this investigation and will release more information and updates when they are available to share.
Police reiterated that search efforts continue as the 4-month anniversary of Vue’s disappearance approaches.
In the last month, additional drone searches coordinated by the Wisconsin Drone Network were conducted with assistance from local authorities. Canine searches coordinated by Wisconsin K9 Search & Rescue were also conducted “in several areas of interest.” Officials say search efforts on water will continue in the coming weeks, with assistance from Bruce’s Legacy for additional sonar searching.
TRPD says the FBI is continuing to follow up on national tips and leads, while state, county and local agencies are working leads within Wisconsin, mainly in the Two Rivers, Wisconsin Dells and Portage areas. Investigators are analyzing “an extremely large amount of video and other data” including drone search footage.
We continue to encourage participation in coordinated and legally permissible search efforts for Elijah. We have also remained in contact with Elijah’s family with assistance from Department of Justice Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) regarding the efforts of our searches. DCI continues to remain the lead agency coordinating the efforts of the ongoing criminal investigation and all related interviews in this case, with help from investigators from our agency, Manitowoc County Sheriff’s Office and the FBI.
We, like many of you, want to find answers and are working hard to do so. We believe in transparency and keeping everyone up to date with facts. We will share facts as much as we are able, and as timely as we can when new information presents, but please understand that we cannot jeopardize any portion of the ongoing investigation. We remain committed to investigating the circumstances regarding the disappearance of Elijah.
Three-year-old Elijah Vue was reported missing Feb. 20. Soon after police began their search, both his mother, Katrina Baur, and her boyfriend, Jesse Vang, were arrested.
They remain jailed on child neglect charges. Prosecutors say Baur sent her son to stay with Vang at his Two Rivers apartment to learn discipline.
Anyone with information related to this case should be reported by calling 1-844-267-6648 or online through Manitowoc County Crime Stoppers. Rewards totaling $40,000 are being offered in the case.
Vue is described as having dark blond hair and brown eyes. He is about three feet tall, weighs about 45 pounds and has a birthmark on his left knee.
