DE PERE, WI (WTAQ) — A new partnership between the City of De Pere and Greener Bay Compost.
In November of 2023, $10 thousand in the De Pere city budget was approved for food waste composting services.
The partnership will allow De Pere residents to subscribe to Greener Bay Compost for half the regular price.
“We make the process easy, clean, and convenient,” said Greener Bay Compost founder and CEO Cory Groshek. “We take all the hard, dirty, and sometimes smelly work of composting and do it for you. The only thing you have to do is fill up these five-gallon bucks and put them out on the schedule.”
Chase Kuffel, City of De Pere’s Assistant City Engineer and Sustainability Commission Liaison, says the program has an environmental advantage and advantages for the city, too.
“We’re separating food waste and reducing the garbage we’re trucking to the landfill, which reduces our tipping fees so we’re not paying as much tonnage to have waste stored and trucked,” said Kuffel.
A list of acceptable compost items can be found here.
De Pere residents can participate in the every-four-week pickup plan for $7.50 per month, or the every-other-week pickup plan for $12.50 per month.
The program is currently set to last until the end of 2024; but may continue into 2025.
