GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A Green Bay high school rolled out the red, white and blue carpet for its service-bound seniors.
Green Bay Preble High School held a Service Recognition Day Wednesday to honor five students who committed to serving their country in a branch of service.
Dan Retzki says it’s important to honor these students for what is a big commitment.
“Like I said, I think it’s important we recognize all areas of students and what they do beyond high school and today is a great day to celebrate a service commitment by each of these five individuals and the one that’s already deployed.”
The students honored are:
Emerson Racine enlisted in the United States Air Force and deploys in July to San Antonio. He is the son of Katherine and Tom Racine.
United States Army
Christian Linares enlisted in the United States Army and deploys in July to Fort Moore, Georgia. He is the son of Edith Santos and Aurelio Linares Jr. and has three siblings Matthew, Alejandro and Emiliano.
Guillermo Pacheco enlisted in the United States Army and deploys in July for Fort Liberty, North Carolina. He is the son of Amanda Gonzalez and has three siblings Juliana, Harper and Paizlee.
Quinn Shryock enlisted in the United States Marines and deploys in May for San Diego. He is the son of Kimberlee and Aaron Shyrock and has one sibling Rose.
Christian Brott enlisted in the United States Naval Reserves and deploys in July for recruit training at the Naval Station Great Lakes which is located in Illinois. He is the son of Shannon and Jacob Brott and has two siblings Nickolas and Sydney.
“It wasn’t a difficult decision at all, I was very determined since I was a kid to do whatever I wanted so right when I turned 17 years old, I stepped foot into the office and talked to the recruiters, talking about my process and just decided to sign the paper right away,” senior Christian Linares said.
Retzki says they typically have up to 10 seniors each year who commit to a branch of service.
