GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – If someone asked you what sport comes to mind when you think of Green Bay, chances are pretty slim that your answer would be competitive bowling.
However, Green Bay is continuing to make quite a name for itself as a popular destination for large bowling contests.
On Thursday, the 2024 USBC Queens tournament will begin at the Ashwaubenon Bowling Alley. Part of the Professional Women’s Bowling Association Tour schedule, it’s considered a major championship for the world’s best female bowlers.
“This week, 186 of the top female bowlers in the world are here. 17 different countries are represented,” said Matt Orvis, owner of the Ashwaubenon Bowling Alley.
Tickets are available for purchase at the front doors, or you can watch all the action online at BowlTV.com. Tuesday’s finals will be broadcast live on CBS Sports Network.
Looking ahead to next year, there are a number of other major bowling competitions coming to Green Bay.
The 2025 Junior Gold Championships will be hosted in Green Bay for the first time. From July 11-19, thousands of the top youth bowlers from across the country will compete at multiple bowling centers in and around Green Bay:
Bowlero Superbowl Family Entertainment
Bowlero Sabre Lanes
Buzz Social
Dale’s Weston Lanes
Revs Bowl Bar and Grill
Riviera Lanes
Rolling Thunder Lanes
Officials estimate the event will draw thousands of participants, fans and spectators and have an economic impact of $12 million between the four host destinations of Green Bay, the Fox Cities, Oshkosh and Wausau.
“It is a huge, and probably the largest, youth bowling event in the world,” Orvis said.
Additionally, all United States Bowling Congress Youth members will have the opportunity to participate in the Bowling.com Youth Open Championships, which will be held next year July 9-11, 18-20 and 26-27 in Green Bay.
Finally, up to 10,000 competitors, their families and fans will have the chance to attend the live TV finals of the Professional Women’s Bowling Association (PWBA) Green Bay Open at the Resch Complex on July 13, 2025.
“We’re very excited to be adding this to the mix for 2025 along with the NFL Draft, that’s for sure. This will be another great event for our community,” said Joel Everts, sports manager for Discover Green Bay. “That’ll be great to witness and be a part of. As stated, it will probably be one of the largest bowling events for women bowlers that’s ever been held, so we’re very excited that it’s going to be happening here in our community.”
Orvis said the Ashwaubenon Bowling Alley will also be hosting the Wisconsin State Women’s Bowling Tournament, running from the end of January to the middle of April.
