GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Green Bay head men’s basketball coach Sundance Wicks has been hired as the new head coach of Wyoming after just one, albeit successful season with the Phoenix.
Wicks is a Wyoming native and had been a former assistant in Laramie. Now he replaces former Cowboy’s head coach Jeff Linder who left in recent days to become the top assistant coach at Texas Tech.
A tough hit to UWGB after Wicks led a complete turn around of the program in 2023-2024, 15 more wins than season previous and named Joe B. Hall National Coach of the Year given to the top coach in their first season under the helm. The 13 conference wins was the most since 2013-2014.
Wicks had just signed a new 5-year contract extension to stay in Green Bay through 2028-2029, included in it was $705,000 buy-out that now Wyoming/Wicks must pay Phoenix athletic department.
