GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Jackson Rego allegedly shot at two teens, hitting one, because they were egging his Pittsfield house, according to a criminal complaint.
Rego, 18, is scheduled to make an initial court appearance Friday on three charges: first-degree reckless injury, first-degree recklessly endangering safety, and endangering safety with reckless use of a firearm.
According to the criminal complaint, police responded to Rego’s home on River Forest Hills Drive Wednesday night for a report of a shooting.
One of the victims, a 16-year-old was taken to the hospital. He is identified in the complaint by his initials, JCT, while the driver of the car is identified by his initials, RS.
According to the complaint, JCT told investigators:
On Wednesday, May 1, 2024, around 7:45pm, I, [JCT] received a text message from my friend, [RS]. [RS] asked me if I wanted to go egg Jack Rego’s house (Jackson Thomas Rego 10/17/2005), to which I replied, “heck yeah.” [RS]then picked me up from my address at [ ] around 8:15pm. After picking me up, [RS] drove us to the Kwik Trip in Pulaski, where we purchased two cartons of eggs. From there, [RS] drove us around until it was dark out. [RS] and I drove past Jack Rego’s house to “case it out.” Once dark out, [RS] drove us past Jack Rego’s house multiple times. We drove by very slowly, throwing eggs at it each time. After a few rounds, I saw Jack come outside and flip us off. I suggested to [RS] that we do one more round of throwing eggs on our way out of the area as I still had some left. I was standing up in the vehicle to throw eggs out of the sunroof when I saw Jack had something in his hands. I asked [RS] what Jack had in his hands, and then noticed it looked like a gun. I ducked a little bit but thought Jack was just threatening us with the gun, I never thought he would shoot at us. [RS] drove off and Jack fired two rounds at us, with the second one hitting me just under my ribs on my left side. When this happened, I was still standing, with my body slightly bladed towards the passenger side of the vehicle. Jack was in front of us, off the passenger side, on his property near the garage. After I knew I was shot [RS] drove very fast out of the area. I told [RS] to slow down and call 911. We then waited for help to arrive.
Doctors removed a small portion of a spent round from his left side, between his waistline and ribs, the complaint states.
[RS] told police the front passenger window of his car was shattered.
“I never threw any eggs, and only drove my vehicle during this incident,” he told police.
Rego told police he grabbed an AR-15, .223 from his bedroom. According to the complaint:
Rego stated he was sitting in his vehicle, parked in the driveway, when he heard a noise coming from behind. Rego stated he got out and saw eggs lying in the driveway that were not there previously. Rego stated that a vehicle as on the roadway but left northbound. Rego stated the vehicle returned, so he fired a “warning shot.” Rego stated the vehicle did not leave right away, so he fired another warning shot in the direction of the vehicle but he stated his firearm was aimed toward the ground.
My mom then came out of the house freaking out. I told my mom what I did and told her that I thought I was protecting them. I unloaded the gun, and my mom took the magazine. I went back into the house and went into my bedroom. I put the rifle in my bedroom closet and stayed in my bedroom until the cops came.
Rego told police the rifle was a semi-automatic AR 15 .223 registered to his father, who had given it to him.
