GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Four nonprofits are pooling their resources together to get students back to school ready.
The Service League Green Bay, The Salvation Army of Greater Green Bay, Howe Community Resource Center, and Newcap kicked off their inaugural, “One Stop School Shop” campaign Tuesday.
In years past, some of the participating nonprofits held individual school supply campaigns, however, the organizations decided they would be stronger together to create one big shopping event.
“Quite honestly, nonprofits and volunteer, everything has changed so much with COVID and the Service League of Green Bay is not as large of a group as it once was so resources is a big thing, so we really asked the community for support for this too because not only is it really helpful that we’re all putting our hands together and our heads together to make it the event that the kids need but resources also are not as high as they once were, so we’re asking for community support for financially as well,” said Anna Burnett of Service League Green Bay chair.
Tuesday’s kickoff event marks the beginning to collect essential school supplies. The campaign aims to gather and purchase backpacks, school supplies, socks, underwear, and shoes to assist children in the community that will be registered for the One Stop School Shop event.
The event, set for the first week of August at UW-Green Bay’s Kress Center, will also feature a “Resource Row.” This component will provide families with access to crucial services, including eye exams, immunizations, and information on other local resources available to help them thrive.
Organizers are working with area school districts to register families. In June, registration will be live and open for other families to register.
To volunteer or donate money or school supplies, you can contact any of the four organizations.
The event aims to help 5,000 students.
