KAUKAUNA, WI (WTAQ) — Improvements are coming to La Follette Park in Kaukauna.
A new all-inclusive playground will include a universal swing, lower transfer platforms for easier access, and a rubber ground to allow mobility devices to access the equipment.
“We want to make our playgrounds all-inclusive because it’s heartbreaking for kids with mobility issues to go to the park with their bothers and sisters, only to not be able to play because the equipment isn’t accessible for them,” said Kaukauna Mayor Tony Penterman.
Additionally, the playground equipment will be sectioned off by age range. One section will include equipment for 2-5 year old kids, while another is for 6-12 year old kids.
Right now, crews are prepping the site. Construction work will begin in May, and the playground will officially be ready after Memorial Day.
The current playground equipment will be moved to Grignon Park.
The $350 thousand project is covered by American Rescue Plan Act funds.
