APPLETON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Four pets died in a house fire in Appleton Tuesday morning.
Firefighters say they were called to the 900 block of N. Richmond Street around 8:30 a.m. A caller reported seeing smoke and flames in a bedroom.
Crews arrived to find heavy smoke. Smoke alarms, which the fire department said were properly working, were not sounding. Firefighters were able to get the fire under control within 10 minutes.
One resident was home at the time. That person was not injured. Two dogs and two cats died, however. Another cat survived.
The fire department estimates the damage at $70,000.
