GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — It may have been the Spring Election, but there was a lot of focus on November’s election in our area on Tuesday with a visit from former President Donald Trump in downtown Green Bay.
His supporters provided a warm welcome after Trump last visited Green Bay four years ago and Wisconsin two years ago.
Despite ongoing winter storms, it was a standing room only crowd for the event inside the KI Convention Center that essentially kicks off Trump’s attempt to win back the battleground state he lost to President Joe Biden four years ago.
“Has anybody noticed the weather outside?” Trump asked the crowd. “They said ‘sir I don’t think we’re going to make it.’ I said we have to, we can’t disappoint Green Bay. There’s no way.”
Trump spoke for an hour, perhaps spending the most focus on what’s happening at our southern border.
“On day one we will eliminate every open borders policy of the Biden administration and begin the largest domestic deportation operation in American history, starting with all the criminals that are pouring in,” said Trump.
Trump also criticized Biden on the economy, social security, and the ongoing wars overseas.
“If that election were a legitimate election, we would have had a deal with Cuba,” said Trump. “We wouldn’t have had Russia attacking Ukraine, and we would not have had October 7th in Israel. I can guarantee you that.”
The former President also addressed his ongoing legal battles.
“It’s election interference at the highest level, never happened in our country before,” said Trump.
Trump concluded by telling supporters the nation is failing and he needs their help to ensure things get turned around.
“We will make America safe again and we will make America great again,” said Trump. “Thank you Wisconsin, go out and vote.”
An anti-Trump billboard, paid for by the Democratic National Committee, could be seen in Green Bay, coinciding with the former president’s visit to the city. LAMAR advertising says the billboard is only running Tuesday and was just ordered this week.
Next week, President Biden will visit the battleground state in Madison.
