FOND DU LAC, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Charges have been filed against a man accused of stabbing his wife in Fond du Lac.
Fermin Teodoro Lopez-Mendoza, 50, is charged with attempted first degree intentional homicide, mayhem, first degree reckless injury, and aggravated battery. All charges contain domestic violence and dangerous weapon enhancers.
A cash bond was set at $2 million in Fond du Lac County court Wednesday.
According to the criminal complaint, on March 22, officers were dispatched to a home on County Road K for a report of a woman who had been stabbed.
When police arrived, a witness said Lopez-Mendoza had stabbed the victim with a knife after the couple was having an argument about Lopez-Mendoza moving out.
After the stabbing, the witness said Lopez-Mendoza got into a vehicle and drove off. As Lopez-Mendoz drove off, the witness threw a hammer at the vehicle, striking the back window, causing it to shatter.
The woman was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. She also suffered internal bleeding as her liver was punctured from one of the stab wounds, the complaint reads.
Authorities were able to track Lopez-Mendoza to a residence in Ozaukee County where he was arrested.
His vehicle was located in rural Calumet County and seized as evidence in the criminal investigation.
Federal Homeland Security later confirmed to the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office that Lopez-Mendoza is illegally in the United States.
He returns to court April 4 for a preliminary hearing.
