(MARQUETTE ATHLETICS) SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The Marquette University women’s basketball team fell to seventh-seeded Ole Miss, 67-55, on Saturday in the NCAA Tournament First Round.
“I can’t say enough about my team and their effort and grit today and really across the whole season,” head coach Megan Duffy said. “I feel for our seniors right now who won’t get another shot to play a game. Overall, just so proud of our young women and what they’ve accomplished this season.”
The Golden Eagles (23-9, 11-7 BIG EAST) were led by Liza Karlen, who had 19 points and 14 rebounds for her 10th double-double of the season.
Rose Nkumu added 18 points and five assists. Mackenzie Hare finished with 10 points with a pair of 3’s.
The game saw 10 lead changes and five ties.
Ole Miss (24-8, 12-4 SEC) was led by Madison Scott who had a game-high 20 points.
NOTABLES:
- Jordan King had her 1,800th point of her career, becoming just the fifth player in program history to hit that mark.
- Karlen had a season-high 14 rebounds.
- Nkumu had her 17th game this season with five-or-more assists
- Hare hit two threes and finished the season with 91 made threes, which is tied for the second-most 3-pointers made in a season.
- Karlen finished the season with 240 field goals, the third-most field goals made in a single season in program history
