GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) — A paw-sitively purr-fect bookstore is getting ready to open.
Safe Haven Pet Sanctuary, which rescues, rehabilitates, and finds forever homes for cats with disabilities, is opening a bookstore inside its facility.
“We have a 2,000 square foot event space that we were only using for events and fundraisers, so because of that it was kind of a big, empty room” said Elizabeth Feldhausen, founder and CEO of Safe Haven. “For the past 6 months or so we were mulling around with different ideas, and said ‘lets add something that pairs well with cats that would be good for our community.'”
Not only can people enjoy cuddling with the cats while they read; it’s good for the cats, too.
“We do have a lot that come from abuse, neglect, hoarding, or breeding,” said Feldhausen. “So just having people around doing normal people things, really helps the cats.”
Books for the store are donated by the community. Feldhousen says they’ve collected thousands of books so far, and the Ashwaubenon Historical Society donated about 700 books.
Each book is $3. Funds raised from the book sales will go towards animals surgeries and other medical procedures.
A grand opening of the bookstore is set for Saturday at Safe Haven Pet Sanctuary, at 151 N Broadway in Green Bay, from noon to 4 p.m.
