GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Nearly two dozen volunteers from Brown County were sworn in Thursday as Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) for children in need.
CASA of Brown County recruits, trains and supports volunteers to advocate for and support abused and/or neglected kids until their court case is closed and they have found a safe permanent home. These volunteers visit the child on a regular basis and submit a monthly report to the Judge on the child’s safety and wellbeing.
“Selfless and caring CASA volunteers make a lasting impact. We are grateful for strong community support of our child advocacy program and welcome our new CASA volunteers,” said Kristin Jacobs, executive director of CASA of Brown County.
CASA volunteers complete 30 hours of pre-service training before they are sworn in.
“I love the sense of community that was created through our training class,” a recently sworn in CASA volunteer said. “It definitely was the best it could be!”
A child with a CASA volunteer, who is a consistent adult presence in their life, is more likely to get help with other services, spend less time living in foster care, find a safe and permanent home and do better in school.
Judges Tammy Jo Hock and John P. Zakowski swore in 19 new CASA of Brown County volunteers.
