GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — An increased police presence at Green Bay schools Thursday was a precaution in response to an old social media message being shared, school officials say.
According to a letter from the district to parents, a threat was posted to Snapchat on Wednesday night. The post, which first circulated in 2023, mentioned Green Bay schools in general and not any building in particular. The post “refers to a revolution using language that is not typical to our local area,” the letter says. Police do not believe the threat to be credible.
The district encourages parents to speak to their children about the serious consequences that can come from making threats, whether verbal, written or on social media, even as jokes.
Information about threats can be reported to Speak Up/Speak Out at 1-800-697-8761 or Crime Stoppers at (920) 432-7867, online or through the P3 smartphone app.
