GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) — Year seven of Give Big Green Bay is one for the record books.
During the 24-hour fundraising event, over $3.04 million was raised for 50 area nonprofits. This is the most raised through the event across all seven years, and a significant jump from last year.
“We exceeded last year by almost $600 thousand,” said Dennis Buehler, President and CEO of the Greater Green Bay Community Foundation. “We had about $2.4 million last year, and about 38 hundred donors last year, so we significantly outweighed last year’s performance.”
This year saw a record 5,617 individual donors.
Golden House in Green Bay raised the most money, with $166,091. Happily Ever After Animal Sanctuary saw the most individual contributions with 573.
But even those who don’t raise the most money still benefit tremendously.
“We really are intentional about trying to find those small organizations that are doing work in our neighborhoods,” said Buehler. “And even when they’re able to raise $10-15 thousand, that’s really meaningful support.”
The Green Bay Packers Foundation donated $250,000 in matching funds, as did a group of donors including Terry and Kris Fulwiler, Janet and Charlie Lieb, The Village Companies and Associated Bank. Those matches will be distributed proportionally to organizations based on how much each one raised.
The fundraising event went from noon on Wednesday to noon on Thursday.
