MENASHA, WI (WTAQ) — A program through Menasha’s Community Clothes Closet is helping many high schoolers get ready for prom.
Through Operation Cinderella, the Community Clothes Closet works with school councilors and social workers to connect students in need with a free prom dress. They also get to pick out accessories such as jewelry, purses, shoes, and new makeup.
“We’re thinking about 80-100 students will participate this year,” said Lisa Jones, Executive Director of Community Clothes Closet. “Last year we served 80, so we’re anticipating that number will increase just due to the need in the community right now.”
Donations of new or gently used dresses, shoes, purses, and new makeup are needed for the event, and can be dropped off at the Community Clothes Closet in Menasha or at the Appleton Public Library.
“We’re looking for all sizes in all different styles,” said Jones. “We work with a variety of different students. Some love sparkley, some love satin, some love flowers, so having a large variety is very important.”
On March 8, students who are registered through their school counselor or social worker will be able to shop and try on multiple dresses before picking one out.
This is the third year the Community Clothes Closet has hosted the event.
