The Milwaukee Brewers have signed veteran catcher Gary Sanchez to a one year deal worth a reported seven million dollars. He’s expected to serve as the primary backup to starter William Contreras. Sanchez played his first seven years with the New York Yankees, finishing second in the American League Rookie of the Year balloting in 2016. His best season in New York was in 2017 when he hit.278 with 33 home runs and 90 runs batted in. Sanchez hit a career high 34 long balls in 2021. He spent the 2022 season with the Minnesota Twins and split last year with the New York Mets and San Diego Padres where he hit .218 with 19 homers in 72 games played. For his career, Sanchez has a .225 batting average with 173 homers. Pitchers and catchers will report to the Brewer spring training complex in Maryvale, Arizona late next week.
