Proposed residential building on the former UnitedHealth Group property in Howard. PC: Fox 11 Online
HOWARD, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A developer now wants to tear down the former AMS/UnitedHealth Group headquarters in Howard.
T. Wall Enterprises has submitted revised plans to the village that include razing the building at 3100 AMS Blvd.
In a statement, Jake Bunz of T. Wall said:
Instead of keeping the office building and converting it, after a lengthy architect’s and engineer’s and contractor’s studies and cost analysis, we’ve decided to raze the office tower due to the high cost of conversion combined with the high cost of building an enclosed parking facility, it’s less expensive to raze the building and build based upon a new plan with a series of buildings around a central court yard and amenity space that includes a pool and club house with a fitness center and golf simulator inside.
T. Wall bought the property for $4.5 million last year. Its Grid-Iron District proposal includes residential and commercial space for the 50-acre site.
The building once housed more than 1,000 employees after it was built in the 1990s. In 2020, as more of its employees starting working from home, the health insurance company decided to downsize, leaving the more than 300,000-square-foot office building vacant.
Howard’s Plan Commission meets the third Monday of each month. The agenda for its next meeting has not yet been posted.
