NEENAH, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – “There’s two sides to my husband,” Jaime Farmer said. “There’s the alcoholic Scott and there’s the Scott that would give the shirt off his back to help anybody and everybody.”
Since the fatal crash on December 16th, there’s been tears. From the family of siblings Daniela, Lillian, Fabian and Daniel, and from the family of the man suspected of killing them, Scott Farmer.
“He is so sorry for what he has done and I know that won’t bring him back- and I’m so sorry,” Jaime said.
Scott has previously been convicted of four OWIs.
“Alcoholism is a disease,” Jaime said. “I’m not sure if many people know how big of a disease alcoholism is. It’s a mental illness.”
That’s been a struggle for much of his life according to his wife.
“He’s been through multiple treatment options,” Jaime said. “He has been sober just recently for over two years. But the demons were too strong and they came back through.”
The couple has been been married for three years and together for six.
“I love my husband,” Jaime said. “I will never give up on him. This was not him. It was the disease.”
Yet Jaime knows there’s a different side to him that isn’t being shown.
“Scott would work 80, 90 hours a week to provide for us, our grandchildren, our children,” Jaime said. “He is not a monster. The love he had for his family, friends, me.”
Jaime said she’s spoken to Scott since his arrest.
“He just wants to die,” Jaime said. “He wants to know how God could make him live through this. I said Scott it wasn’t you. He goes ‘no but I have the repercussions from it.'”
Even while supporting her husband, Jaime still grieves alongside those mourning the loss of the four Gonzalez children.
“We’re truly sorry,” Jaime said. “There’s nothing I can say that will bring them children back. I won’t be able to give them any peace whatsoever. Lean to God. God will get us through this.”
