(MARQUETTE ATHLETIC COMMUNICATIONS) – The No. 7/7 Marquette University men’s basketball team (8-2, 0-0 BIG EAST) wraps up its three-game homestand on Thursday night at 7 p.m. CT when the squad hosts St. Thomas (6-4, 0-0 Summit League) to conclude the non-conference portion of its schedule.
Marquette’s series with St. Thomas dates back to the program’s third season of competition in 1919-20, but the two teams haven’t met since the 1977-78 campaign.
The Golden Eagles lead the all-time series 8-3 and have claimed seven of the last eight matchups. The first matchup was a 17-11 win by St. Thomas on Feb. 21, 1920 and the most recent outing was an 80-45 victory by Marquette at home on Nov. 30, 1977.
Bernard Toone and Butch Lee both scored 10 points in the victory under first-year head coach Hank Raymonds and Marquette finished with a 41-22 advantage on the boards and forced 14 turnovers.
