BROWN COUNTY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Local law enforcement officers traded in their badges for Santa hats and shopping carts Saturday.
The officers, deputies and troopers were paired up, one-on-one, with about a hundred different kids from Brown County for the annual Shop with a Cop event.
Hosted at various Walmart locations across the county, the event offers a unique opportunity for elementary school children to shop for presents for their family members with local law enforcement. Shop with a Cop also helps to foster positive community relations between law enforcement and local kids.
Officers and deputies from the Brown and Outagamie County Sheriff’s Offices along with representatives from Ashwaubenon Public Safety, De Pere, Green Bay, Hobart-Lawrence, Oneida, Pulaski and Wrightstown Police Departments and the State Patrol all participated.
“It’s been really fun. Lot of fun conversation, the kid that I have is the same age as one of my sons so just talking about the things they enjoy, they things they like to do and then just seeing the enjoyment on their face when they find the right gift for their parents, so it’s been good,” said Capt. Clint Beghun with the Green Bay Police Department.
This year marked the 29th year for the local Shop with a Cop event.
And, while the shopping is over for this year, donations can still be made to Brown County’s Shop with a Cop through the Greater Green Bay Community Foundation or the Brown County Shop with a Cop website.
