The Green Bay Phoenix Men’s basketball team has already matched last year’s win total of three under first year Head Coach Sundance Wicks. The Phoenix hit the road to open Horizon League play and lost a competitive game to the Mastadons of Purdue-Fort Wayne Wednesday night 75-71. GB fell behind by 10 midway through the first half but solid shooting got them back into the game. It stayed close throughout the second half. Clarence Cummings III, making his season debut for the Phoenix, knocked down a three with less than a minute to play that got the game even at 69. Down one with a chance to grab the lead late or win with a last second hoop, GB turned the ball over the 16th and final time which led to a breakout layup for the final margin. Noah Reynolds again led the Phoenix in scoring with 16 while Cummings added 12 off the bench. Green Bay drops to 3-4 on the season, 0-1 in Horizon play. They’ll return home to the Resch Center to face in-state rival Milwaukee on Saturday night.
