BROWN COUNTY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — From the fast lane on the highway, to the check out lanes at the grocery store, preparations for the Thanksgiving holiday are in full swing.
Thanksgiving Eve is one of the busiest travel days of the year. Just as airports and highways are full of travelers, grocery stores are filled with shoppers as people pick up last-minute items for their Thanksgiving feasts.
According to AAA, more than $55 million people are expected to travel for the holiday this year, a more than 2% increase over last year.
And when they arrive at their destination, people say they are looking forward to seeing friends and family — but also eating a delicious meal.
“This is a fun time of the year. We do a lot of preparation, a lot goes into getting the store to look this way, but once you have it set, this is honestly a fun time for all of us,” said Jason Jacobs with Festival Foods.
Whether people are heading out of town or coming home after being away for too long, everyone is just excited for what the holiday and the weekend will bring.
According to Andrew Ramage, who is originally from Oconto but lives in Green Bay now, “Obviously spending time with friends and family is important, but you’ve got to love the food on Thanksgiving.”
At the grocery store, the turkey cases are almost empty, pies are going out the door and shoppers are checking things off their list.
Lori Keisic of Green Bay was out shopping for a few final items. “A little ice cream for the apple crisp, some coleslaw and some Jell-O shots. The important things, I guess, right? A few little extra bonus things for friends coming over.”
The crowds and traffic and preparation may be tedious, but spending time with the ones you love is what everyone says matters most.
“Just kind of getting away, getting away from the every day things like work. Destress a little bit. It’s going to be fun,” added Manuel Rivas from Door County.
