The Green Bay Phoenix defeated St. Francis University of Illinois 72-56 at the Kress Center Thursday night for their first win of the year and the first career win for new Head Coach Sundance Wicks. For a program that won only three times all last season, the celebration was most welcome. The Phoenix and Saints went toe to toe in the first half with GB taking a 31-27 lead into the locker room at intermission. In the second half, Green Bay steadily pulled away thanks to outstanding guard play. Noah Reynolds and Elijah Jones were both able to drive to the hoop almost at will. Reynolds finished with a game high 23 points while dishing off 10 assists. Jones scored 22 on a perfect night from the floor. He was 10 for 10 on field goals including both of his three point attempts. As a team, the Phoenix shot 59.3% from the floor. Green Bay (1-1) travels to Indiana on Tuesday to play former Horizon League conference rival Valparaiso.
