GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Local law enforcement is working to identify an individual who used an orbeez gun to shoot water pellets at Edison Middle School students Monday.
According to a news release from the Green Bay Area Public School District (GBAPS), written by Principal Brenden Whitfield, the incident occurred during 7th period while students were outside for physical education class.
The release states that an individual jumped out of a parked car on Alpine Road and used an orbeez gun to shooter “several” water pellets at students before running back to the vehicle and driving away.
An orbeez gun uses water pellets that have potential risks due to accidental hits to vital body parts such as the face, especially the eyes or ears. In addition, the toy gun could be confused with a real gun and solicit an unintended law enforcement response.
GBAPS administration said no one was hurt and students safely returned to the school building. However, as a precaution, the Green Bay Police Department provided additional police presence in the area at the end of the school day.
Anyone with information that could assist in identifying the individual is asked to contact Speak Up/Speak Out at 1-800-697-8761 or Crime Stoppers at 920-432-7867.
