West De Pere is making it’s first trip to the WIAA Boys State Soccer Tournament a memorable one. The 4th seeded Phantoms upset top seed Waukesha West 3-2 in overtime in the Division 2 semifinal Thursday. They trailed 2-0 at halftime but Landon Arnstad got West De Pere on the board in the 53rd minute. Carter Borley squared the match in the 80th minute and 5:40 into overtime, Arnstad delivered the game winner. West De Pere was outshot 20-8 but they advance to the title game with a record of 18-3-2. The Phantoms will face Union Grove, a 2-0 winner over DeForest in the Division 2 championship at 1:30 Saturday afternoon.
In Division 3, Plymouth rolled over Somerset 5-0 with Owen Plate scoring twice. The Panthers (15-3-2) will face Belleville/New Glarus in the title game after they upset top seed Pius XI 3-0.
The De Pere Redbirds, making their third trip to state in the past four years and 10th overall, take on powerhouse Brookfield East Friday in the Division 1 semifinal at 11:00 AM Friday.
