GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) — The YWCA of Greater Green Bay is hosting Week Without Violence; a movement towards a violence free community.
Week Without Violence runs October 16-21. The theme this year is “Not on our screens, not on our streets.”
“This is a national effort to highlight tech-facilitated gender based violence, cyberbullying, and inappropriate uses of technology and electronics that can be harmful to women, children, and all people,” said Catherine Sendelbach, Women’s Empowerment Center Coordinator for the YWCA of Greater Green Bay.
The purpose of the week is to raise awareness and provide resources to violence survivors through various community events. Click here to see all Week Without Violence events hosted by the YWCA of Greater Green Bay.
Statistically, 1 in 5 women will experience some sort of violence in their lifetime.
“When we view violence on our screens, and participate in that, it really does desensitize people and communities,” said Sendelbach. “This can be incredibly detrimental.”
This is the 29th year of Week Without Violence.
