DE PERE, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A new space to host a number of events in De Pere is one step closer to becoming reality.
The city officially broke ground on the new Nelson Family Pavilion at Voyageur Park Friday.
It will be located near the park’s current restrooms, and will include indoor space that can hold up to 250 people.
The $1.5 million project, which was announced last year, will be used for events like festivals, concerts, and even weddings.
De Pere Mayor James Boyd says he believes events will start being planned and scheduled over the next eight months or so.
$750,000 was donated towards the project by the Dave and Rita Nelson Foundation.
The pavilion is expected to be completed in June of 2024, when the city plans on holding its grand opening.
