WINNECONNE, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A suspected shooter is still on the loose after a road rage confrontation in Winneconne led schools and the village hall to be locked down Wednesday afternoon.
Police Chief Ben Sauriol said officers were called to a dentist’s office on Main Street around 1:45 p.m. When officers arrived, they found employees of the dentist’s office providing first aid to a male who had been shot several times.
The victim told police he confronted a man at Lake Winneconne Park over the road rage episode. The man shot the victim, then drove off. The victim was able to drive himself, seeking help at the dentist’s office.
The victim was taken to the hospital, where he was in surgery late Wednesday afternoon. Sauriol did not know his condition.
The shooter was described as a white man over 50, with grayish, thinning hair and decayed teeth.
The shooter’s vehicle was described as an early-to-mid-2000s four-door Toyota pickup truck. It is gray with a lighter silver topper.
As a result of the shooting, schools were put on soft lockdown. Students were released school-by-school as officers were able to position outside each building.
