OCONTO, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – A woman who allegedly physically abused a child, then choked a sheriff’s deputy during an escape attempt after her arrest, faces multiple charges.
Shannon Tourtillot, 32, faces 18 counts, including first-degree reckless injury, physical abuse of a child, child neglect, attempted strangulation, battery to a law enforcement officer, and escape.
During a court appearance last week, bond was set at $75,000 cash. She returns to court Sept. 14 for a balance of initial appearance, court records show.
According to the criminal complaint, police were called to a Green Bay hospital in May for injuries suffered by a 4-year-old girl. The injuries included multiple bruises, and “multiple curvilinear abraded injuries suspicious for finger nail gouges.”
Police determined the father’s girlfriend, Tourtillot, was responsible for the injuries. The victim described various ways she was hurt by Tourtillot, including her “sharp hands.”
Tourtillot told police different ways she believed the injuries may have occurred, including while buckling in a car seat, or falling down. A child protection agent said the injuries were consistent with “non accidental trauma,” however.
After her arrest, at one point an officer was taking the pregnant Tourtillot to the hospital. Because she was pregnant, Tourtillot was not in leg shackles, but was wearing cuffs and a transport belt. She then allegedly attacked the officer.
“Shannon reached through the small prisoner divider window and began strangling her with her transport belt,” the complaint states. The officer suffered several bruises.
Tourtillot got out of the squad car and ran into a grassy area, where she was again captured.
