GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — The city of Green Bay broke ground on a place where ideas on affordable housing can grow.
In partnership with the Brown County United Way, officials held a groundbreaking ceremony for The City East Center Monday.
The 5,000 square foot center, located at 1165 E. Walnut Street, will feature a new community space where nonprofits and the Brown County United Way can collaborate, find assistance and build relationships with neighbors.
It will also include 43 apartments that will be available to residents with a wide range of income levels.
“We are one step closer, another step closer, to establishing a new home for our team of talented professionals, we are a step closer to creating a collaborative space to bring services and resources to City East residents and neighbors and we’re going to co-create solutions, we’re not coming in, riding a white horse and saying, ‘We know what the community needs,’ we’re actually going to continue the community conversations that we’ve had to bring us to this point to really determine what is needed for residents to provide opportunities for economic growth, employment securities, social connectedness, and empowerment and self-advocacy,” said Robyn Davis, president and CEO of Brown County United Way.
Officials expect occupancy within one year.
