MENASHA, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – As the start of a new school year approaches, Community Clothes Closet is helping more than 1500 local students in need acquire new school clothing.
Community Clothes Closet has been serving Northeast Wisconsin since 1980, providing individuals and families in need with free clothing ranging in sizes from infant to adult.
The organization is hosting three back-to-school events this month to distribute items.
- Aug. 16 & 17 – Back-to-School Fair at Oshkosh North High School
- Aug. 18 & 19 – ‘Cool for School’ event at Community Clothes Closet (Menasha)
- Aug. 23 – Operation Backpack at the Boys & Girls Club (Berlin)
To help offset costs of these events, the Closet has implemented a one-week fundraising blitz with the goal of reaching $15,000 between now and Aug. 7. Every donation will be matched up to $7,500.
“Clothing can be very expensive for families, so to help with back-to-school, we provide these programs to help parents stretch their income for other basic necessities like school supplies and housing,” said Executive Director Lisa Jones. “Having the support of the community so that we can ensure these items for kids is super important.”
Interested donors can visit the Community Clothes Closet website. Clothing donations are also being accepted at the Closet’s Menasha location.
