OSHKOSH, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A pilot was taken to the hospital following a plane crash near Wittman Regional Airport in Oshkosh.
The Oshkosh Fire Department says the crash was reported just after 7:30 a.m. The crash was located east of the north-south runway, east of Wittman Regional Airport.
Jennifer Rodi of the National Transportation Safety Board says the plane lost power after taking off to the south. It crash-landed on its left wing in a field and ended up inverted.
The pilot, who was the only person on board, was able to get out of the plane by himself. He was taken to the hospital for treatment.
“He’s going to be OK. Exact detail of injuries I do not have,” Rodi said.
The NTSB is looking for witnesses to the crash, or photos or videos. Those can be reported on the agency’s website.
Federal Aviation Administration records show the Heath V-Strut plane is registered to an owner in southwestern Wisconsin.
The plane will be taken to a secure location for the NTSB to continue its investigation.
The crash happened while thousands of planes are at Wittman airport for this week’s AirVenture, which runs through Sunday.
