A 6-3 victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates Sunday afternoon at PNC Park gave the Milwaukee Brewers a third straight series win on the road, capping a 7-3 trip that keeps them atop the NL Central race. The Pirates struck first when Nick Gonzales hit a two run homer against starter Colin Rea in the second inning. William Contreras did that one better by launching a three run shot off Rich Hill in the top of the third. Rae would settle in and get through six and two third innings for his second winning effort on the trip. The Brewers got two insurance runs in the 8th thanks to a throwing error by the pitcher and Andruw Monasterio ripped a run scoring double into the left field corner in the 9th for the final run. Devin Williams closed it out for his 16th save, fired up over the announcement that he made the National League All Star team for the second year in a row.
The Brewers return home with a 45-39 record, still sharing first in the division with Cincinnati. Milwaukee opens a week long stretch of games within the NL Central beginning with the Chicago Cubs for a four game set, followed by six straight games against Cincinnati with the first three at American Family Field. Julio Teheran will open the Cubs series against Drew Smyly Monday afternoon. Pre-game coverage begins at 12:35 PM with a 1:10 PM first pitch on WNFL.
